Who needs newspapers, telephone books, Google Search?  None of those are necessary when there are PEOPLE.  Knowledgeable, imaginative, chatty PEOPLE. Since settling at Breakfast Point 4 years ago, I have discovered asking questions is the best of ways to succeed.  ‘Ask and you will receive’ is my motto! Moving home is a stupefying experience, especially for those who live alone or are older couples.  It leaves the everyday tasks of life in limbo until, gradually,

I met so many happy, smiley people – including some I didn’t even know.   But, best of all, I met my dentist, my personal trainer, my doctor’s wife, my two beauticians, my granddaughter’s boss, my cousin, the florist and even that clever fortune teller who has such a wonderful imagination.  Wow!  All these interesting, successful and colourful people live and work at my Breakfast

AT SEA The world is a small place. On our first day aboard I spotted a Breakfast Point couple and we did the Gasp! Gosh! What are you doing here! stuff.  They are travelling with another couple from Breakfast Point.  Haven't glimpsed a sign of them since. Next time we run into each other will, undoubtedly, be at the Country Club. Listening to accents is a good pastime on a ship. I have come to the conclusion

LIMA, PERU. 1. We spent two nights at the Marriott Hotel in Lima and dined at a sensational restaurant, La Rosa Nautica. It looks like a Mississipppi river boat, except it’s built out over the Pacific Ocean, We enjoyed four courses of three tasting dishes, with accompanying wines. It is the first of many culinary masterpieces in this journey of ‘Fine Wine and Fine Dining‘. A little ironic I think. 2. Our ship, Oceania’s Marina

I am off on an adventure.  It takes something special to lure me away from Breakfast Point, and this is it! Next Friday I Fly to Orlando in Florida.  I will stay with friends who live and work near Disney World.  Their business is theme parks around the world, and Disney in particular.   In a week’s time, we fly to Lima, Peru and board the cruise liner Oceania Marina. She will sail to exotic

Well, that title might be slightly exaggerated. What I mean is there are great cooks residing around here, and then there’s me. As I hardly ever refuse an invitation, I have, fortunately, dined at quite a number of tables. I am amazed how they produce wonderful multi-course feasts with such aplomb and ease.  The whole experience is a joy, which ultimately throws me into a state of depression in the immediate days to follow. How

Sometime during the pre or post Christmas period, people take a holiday. It seems to me Breakfast Point people, particularly, experience the holiday syndrome this time of the year.  Be they drive, fly, cruise or take a train; they go somewhere.  Even a long weekend mini holiday is a possibility. Local friends and acquaintances disappear from sight and then, suddenly, there they are. Tanned, refreshed and relaxed, shopping at IGA, taking coffee at Olive Kitchen

I sat at the bus stop in Tennyson Road a few weeks ago and the lady who sat next to me, said, “I’m sorry but I have forgotten your name”.  I smiled, and agreed I had no memory of her name either.  We sat together on the bus and gradually came to the conclusion that we had never met before. Formally, that is. Living in Breakfast Point our paths would have crossed in shops, at

HEAVEN’S ABOVE. Look up and see what you have! Look from the river, the wharf, the Country Club, your home. UP THERE IS A WORLD OF SKY. A sky that changes from clear to cloudy, blue to grey, sunlight to twilight; then darkness and stars. Through that wondrous expanse of space fly all manner of aircraft. Huge airliners glide silently by. Busy, buzzy helicopters come and go. Black Hawks in patriotic parade. And, best of

As the excitement of a sensational Spring Fair abated, we fortunate residents of Breakfast Point settled down and looked around.  We were surrounded by spring flowers.  Silkstone Park dripped with Wisteria and cherry blossoms.  Azaleas marked the pathways and the perfume of lavender and jasmine heady in the evening air.  Summer is on the way.  What a wonderful time of the year to live in Breakfast Point. ‘Messing about in boats’ is a well-known quote
